Is Dotman’s “Hakuna Matata” The Best Album Of 2021 So Far?

Dotman is one of those guys whose talent exceed the recognition they get.

He has a contagious voice, and is a very good songwriter. Mostly on his songs, he talks about hustle, his come up stories and flexing.

He does his songs in Yoruba and Pidgin English. And as a matter of fact, Dotmanhas some of the best songs you’ll ever hear.

He came into limelight in 2015, when he did a song with Olamide called “Yes Melo.”

Dotman went on to serve some hits over the years, including his 2016 dance hit, “Akube,” and his most popular single, “My Woman.” He also did “Escobar” withDavido.

Slowly and slowly, the guy worked his way up and by 2021, with a few hits in hand, he was all ready to drop his debut album, “Hakuna Matata.”

Hakuna Matata” doesn’t have a single featured artist, and is 17 tracks long. Dotman takes the show all by himself and his performance is truly impressive.

He gained some buzz when he dropped the album in February and tagged WizKid, asking for a retweet, a situation that caused a brouhaha on Twitter.

The album then peaked at Number 1 on iTunes, and as at this time has garnered about 18.4M streams on AudioMack. It’s the fourth lost streamed Nigerian album of 2021 so far.

But the numbers and the controversy is not exactly what’s amazing about “Hakuna Matata.” It’s all about the music.

The way Dotman does his thing is that, any of the tracks can be released as a single and it will be a hit.

From the calm reminiscent intro “Pele” to the wedding tune, “Shuga” or the song about his mother, “Mama,” every song on the album is a banger.

Hakuna Matata, in deed, has no bad songs. It’s the kind of thing only someone like Kizz Daniel could pull off and Dotman did it effortlessly.

That definitely makes it the best album that has been release's this year, so far. There’s no other album that doesn’t have at least one bad song or skip.

It’s a perfect album and if I were to give it a rating, it’s a 9/10 for me.

    Now, let’s hear from you.
